Our story begins with a recipe.
THE BEGINNING
Grandma “Mama” Pearl baked her delicious Mandel Bread almost every day for most of her 92 years. We grew up eating it. We shared it with our friends. They shared it with their families. A tradition was born.
We lost Mama Pearl in 2017, but her cherished recipe lives on. Her grandson Jacob, in a tribute to Mama Pearl, baked a batch of Mandel Bread for friends and family to enjoy at her memorial service. “I took one bite and it was like Mama was there with me.”
Mama’s Mandels was born.
OUR MISSION
Chef Jacob works tirelessly to develop recipes honoring Mama Pearl’s traditions, at the same time elevating the recipes to reflect a growing food movement focused on wholesome ingredients and delicious flavors. Each recipe represents hours of research and development: a satisfying crunch, sharp crumb and warm balance of flavors join in harmony to create the perfect bite.
We share our Mandels with the world in the hope that one bite, for one moment, brings joy, presence and love to the lucky person eating it. The same love Mama Pearl wanted us all to share.
THE PROCESS
We believe in quality without compromise. That’s why every Mama’s Mandel is made by hand, in small batches, using only the finest ingredients we can source. Unlike the commercial norm, Mama’s does not use any preservatives or ingredients you can’t pronounce.
Every Mandel begins the same: with our organic butter (locally sourced from Northern California) and organic eggs. We mix the dough in small batches, adding organic cane sugar and American-grown wheat flour (unbleached and non-GMO, of course). And depending on the season, we incorporate special ingredients like whole raw almonds, Valrhona chocolates, dried sliced strawberries and hand-harvested sea salts from Spain and the United Kingdom.
The finished dough rests before it is shaped, baked, sliced and then baked again. Each Mandel is finished by hand, literally one at a time, ensuring our impossibly high quality standards are met.
Finally, our signature individual packages are labeled, stuffed and sealed. Now the Mandels are ready to be shipped!

Mama’s Mandels is a family-owned business based in Los Angeles. Founded by father and son, Ron & Jacob Garber, from their home kitchen in Santa Monica, Mama’s has continued the tradition of craft baking in favor of wholesome ingredients, delicious flavor and beautiful design.
